Bluesky’s New App Attie Brings AI-Powered Custom Feeds To Life

Bluesky is taking a bold step toward reshaping how users experience social media. With its latest launch, the company is putting algorithm control directly into users’ hands, powered by artificial intelligence and a vision of a more open internet.

The new app, called Attie, introduces a fresh way to interact with content. Instead of relying on a fixed algorithm, users can now describe exactly what they want to see, and the system builds it for them.

A Personalized Feed, Built By You

At the center of this innovation is Attie, an AI assistant designed to help users create fully customized feeds. Built on Bluesky’s AT Protocol and powered by Anthropic’s Claude, the tool allows anyone to shape their social media experience using simple language.

For instance, a user could request a feed focused on “posts about folklore, mythology, and traditional music, especially Celtic traditions.” Within moments, Attie generates a tailored stream of content based on that request.

Initially, these custom feeds will live inside the standalone Attie app. However, the long-term plan is much bigger. Bluesky aims to integrate these personalized feeds directly into its main platform and other apps built on the AT Protocol.

From Feed Customization To App Creation

While custom feeds are the headline feature, Attie’s roadmap goes far beyond that. The team behind Bluesky envisions a future where users can build entire applications, without writing a single line of code.

That’s where the concept of “vibe-coding” comes in. Instead of traditional programming, users describe what they want, and AI handles the rest. It’s a shift that could lower the barrier to entry for software creation in a major way.

In a blog post, Jay Graber explained the broader vision:

“We built the AT Protocol so anyone could build any app they imagine on top of it, but until recently “anyone” really meant “anyone who can code.” Agentic coding tools change that. For the first time, an open protocol can be genuinely open to everyone. It’s increasingly possible to personalize software with no coding experience at all. The Atmosphere is an open data layer with a clearly defined schema for applications, which makes it uniquely well-suited for coding agents to build on.”

Her comments highlight a turning point. What once required technical expertise may soon become accessible to everyday users.

Built On An Open Foundation

Attie isn’t just another AI feature layered onto a social app. It is deeply tied to Bluesky’s underlying infrastructure, known as the AT Protocol.

This protocol acts as a decentralized backbone, allowing different apps to connect, share data, and operate independently. As a result, Attie’s capabilities are not limited to a single platform. Instead, they can extend across an entire ecosystem of apps built on the same foundation.

Meanwhile, this open approach could encourage more experimentation. Developers, creators, and even casual users may find new ways to interact with content and build tools that suit their needs.

A Glimpse Into The Future Of Social Media

The launch of Attie signals a broader shift in how social platforms might evolve. Rather than dictating what users see, companies are beginning to hand over control.

Still, questions remain. Will users embrace the responsibility of shaping their own feeds? And can AI truly deliver meaningful personalization without overwhelming complexity?

What’s clear is that Bluesky is betting on a future where customization, openness, and accessibility define the next generation of digital experiences.
