Lakers Vs Rockets Thriller Sees LA Grind Out Sixth Straight Win In Houston

It was messy, tense, and far from pretty. Still, when the dust settled in Houston, the Lakers had exactly what they came for, a hard-earned victory. In a bruising contest that tested patience and resilience, Los Angeles edged past the Rockets 100-92, stretching their winning streak to six games.

Fourth Quarter Turns Into Defensive Battle

Lakers win

The Lakers survived a fourth-quarter rock fight to beat the Rockets in Houston on Monday.

What unfolded in the final period was a grind in every sense. Offense stalled, shots refused to fall, and both teams leaned heavily on defense.

An absolute rock fight broke out between the two teams in the fourth as they combined for just 12 points in the first eight minutes of the period. The Lakers eventually found offense, opening up a multiple-possession lead that proved enough.

Lakers Find Late Spark To Close It Out

When it mattered most, Los Angeles delivered.

In the end, some big baskets from Deandre Ayton and a strong defensive showing in the fourth proved enough to come away with yet another big win against a fellow playoff contender.

However, it was not just scoring that sealed the outcome. The Lakers tightened up defensively, forced mistakes, and capitalized on key possessions down the stretch.

Fast Start And Back-And-Forth First Half

The game began with Clint Capela splitting a pair of free throws. LeBron James and Luka Dončić were leading the Lakers early with four and nine points, respectively. Jabari Smith Jr. started well for Houston with four points.

Both teams were shooting 60% from the field. The Rockets missed two 3-pointers, while LA made one.

Soon after, Los Angeles pieced together a short run to take a slim lead. Luka quickly reached double digits, scoring 14 points midway through the opening quarter.

Kevin Durant started cooking with eight points. Rui Hachimura provided a nice spark off the bench with four points. At the 2:16 mark, the Lakers were up by three. The purple and gold allowed Reed Sheppard to score a fast five points, cutting the lead to just one for LA.

Momentum Swings Continue Before Halftime

The second quarter offered no relief, only more swings.

Austin Reaves opened the period with a layup for Los Angeles. Smith Jr. answered immediately with a triple. Reaves then attacked again, adding another layup to push his total to six points.

After Jake LaRavia scored on a layup, Houston called a timeout.

Out of the break, Dorian Finney-Smith drained a 3-pointer.

Meanwhile, the battle in the paint tilted toward Houston early. Capela controlled the glass with six points and three rebounds, while Deandre Ayton remained scoreless despite contributing defensively.

At the 7:25 mark, LA was up by four.

However, the Rockets surged late. They strung together a quick run, briefly taking control before the Lakers answered back. The lead changed hands repeatedly in a tense closing stretch of the half.

At halftime, the Lakers were down by six.

Third Quarter Surge Shifts Momentum

The Rockets came out firing after the break.

Amen Thompson opened the half with a layup. Smart responded immediately for Los Angeles, pushing his point total to eight. Houston stayed efficient, shooting 60% in the quarter, while LA lagged behind at 44%.

LeBron chipped in five of the Lakers’ early points, trying to keep things within reach.

Then, suddenly, the tide turned.

Luka began heating up, scoring a quick five points.

Over a two-minute span, the Lakers put together an 11-2 scoring run that gave them a one-point lead. The run had expanded to 23-7 until Houston surged for four in a row to stop some of the bleeding.

Heading into the fourth, Los Angeles was up by three.

Lakers Defense Seals The Win Late

The final quarter opened with chaos. Turnovers, missed chances, and heavy pressure defined the early minutes.

LeBron broke the tension with a powerful dunk off a Reaves assist. Houston answered, keeping the game within a possession.

Still, Los Angeles refused to crack.

The Lakers’ aggressive defense forced 20 turnovers, giving them just enough control to survive their offensive struggles.

Houston tied the game at the 6:52 mark.

That said, the Rockets’ dominance in second-chance points, leading 23-5, kept the pressure firmly on LA.

LeBron stepped up with clutch free throws. Then came the turning point.

After a long scoring drought, Ayton finished a layup that was ruled a goaltend. Luka followed with a smooth jumper, giving the Lakers breathing room.

With 2:14 left, Los Angeles was nursing a one-point lead.

Smart then drilled a huge three-pointer, pushing the lead to four. Moments later, Ayton delivered again with back-to-back baskets, extending the margin to eight with under a minute remaining.

Reaves sealed it with a steal and assist to LeBron for a final dunk.

Game over.

Key Player Performances Stand Out

Luka Dončić led all scorers with 36 points, adding six rebounds and four assists. LeBron James contributed 18 points, five rebounds, and five assists, including several clutch plays late.

Austin Reaves finished with 15 points, five assists, and four steals, despite struggling from beyond the arc. Smart added 11 points, while LaRavia and Hachimura chipped in with key contributions off the bench.

Meanwhile, Ayton’s late surge proved decisive when it mattered most.

The Lakers now prepare to face the Rockets again on Wednesday, carrying momentum and confidence into the next matchup.
