A tiny monkey in Japan has captured hearts around the world after visitors noticed the young animal clinging tightly to an oversized stuffed toy wherever he goes. The baby macaque, named Punch-kun, has become an unexpected viral sensation, drawing crowds to a small zoo where he lives.

While the images appear adorable, zoo staff say the story behind Punch-kun’s attachment is both touching and heartbreaking. The six-month-old monkey was abandoned by his mother shortly after birth, leaving caretakers to step in and raise him by hand.

Viral Photos Draw Crowds To Japanese Zoo

Visitors have been flocking to Ichikawa City Zoo in Japan after photos and videos of Punch-kun holding a large plush orangutan spread across social media.

The young macaque rarely lets the toy out of his sight. Observers say he drags the stuffed animal across his enclosure, sits beside it while eating, and curls up with it while sleeping.

Zoo officials said they were shocked by the sudden surge of visitors.

“All of our staff were surprised by the unexpected turnout, something we have never experienced before,” the zoo said.

A Difficult Start To Life
