Nearly two decades after Alias ended, Jennifer Garner says one chapter of the hit spy drama remains too painful to revisit.
The actress opened up about the emotional final days of filming the beloved series, admitting there is one episode she has still “never been able” to watch. And the reason goes straight to the heart of the close-knit bond the cast built during five seasons together.
Jennifer Garner Reflects on Final Days of Alias

Garner, now 53, looked back warmly on her time leading the action-packed ABC drama, which ran from 2001 through 2006.
Asked what memories from the set still stay with her, she said, “I have about a million moments from set that stand out to me.”
That answer alone says plenty. For Garner, Alias was more than a career milestone, it was a family.
The actress also recalled the emotional atmosphere surrounding the show’s final shoot.
“We wrapped actually in April. It’ll be 20 years in April. I didn’t realize that because I just think about it since we aired, which is almost 25 years,” she explains. “The day before our last day was my birthday, I think, and the crew had a plane fly over with a banner for me, so I remember that. And I feel like my mom was visiting. It was very emotional.”
The Real Reason She Cannot Watch the Final Episode
While many fans revisit the finale for nostalgia, Garner says she simply cannot bring herself to do it.
“It was so emotional. I’ve never been able to watch the last episode because Victor’s character dies and I just can’t see it. I can’t even see it,” Garner admits.
Victor Garber portrayed Jack Bristow, the father of Garner’s Sydney Bristow, throughout the show’s five-season run. Their on-screen relationship became one of the emotional anchors of the series, making that final loss especially difficult for Garner.
Even now, the sting clearly remains.
Why Sydney Bristow Never Really Left

Would Garner ever step back into Sydney Bristow’s shoes?
Her answer suggests she never fully stepped out of them.
“I don’t have to revisit the character because she lives with me in a way that is so crazy, [with] how many people from Alias I talk to and see every single day.”
For Garner, Alias still surrounds her in surprising ways, especially at work.
“I’m at work now. Our stunt coordinator was my double on Alias and now she’s boss lady. I’ve had the same stand-in all this time,” she continues. “I’ve had the same costumer all this time. The costume designer is from 13 Going on 30 that was after the second season of Alias. So she’s been around.”
Cast Bonds That Never Broke

Hollywood friendships often fade when productions end. That has not happened here.
Garner said she remains in touch with several stars and crew members from the show, including Michael Vartan, Greg Grunberg, Merrin Dungey, Victor Garber, Ron Rifkin and creator J.J. Abrams.
“We’ve done, I don’t even know how many things in the last 20 years,” she adds, noting that she even recently saw Garber’s stand-in.
Then she summed it all up in one line.
“So we’re all very, very connected,” Garner adds.
A Show That Still Means Everything
Some series end when cameras stop rolling. Others stay stitched into the lives of the people who made them.
For Jennifer Garner, Alias clearly belongs in the second category.
And for fans hoping she might someday watch that final episode? It sounds like some endings are still too emotional to face.
